Last Friday I decided to bust out Beach Body’s Hip Hop Abs DVDs (these are the same guys that do P90X) for my cardio workout — they are divided into level one and two, with level two obviously being more advanced than the former, and the DVDs come with a premade workout schedule for a few weeks to help you get a sculpted midsection as efficiently as possible. Now, I didn’t purchase the DVDs because I necessarily want a six pack (I assure you, I don’t — though I do have what I call a fat four pack, I’m simply unwilling to deprive myself of good food to be able to boast an all-out washboard stomach), but core strength is definitely fundamental to physical well being.
I’m not entirely sure what happened to my level one cardio workout disc (it may be floating around my parents’ townhouse in the city), so I pulled out the level two disc for the first time. It’s longer and more advanced than level one, of course, and I found it a lot of fun. Definitely will go back to it for cardio when I’m feeling a longer session (about 45 minutes). The teacher, Shaun T., is enthusiastic, charismatic, and energetic — so you’re entertained as you work out.
Now, I’m a dancer, so for me DVDs like this are a great alternative to trekking out to an official dance class at the gym (as well as saving you time). If you’re not, find other ways to make your cardio enjoyable so you will do it — if you enjoy nature, take a hike around your local forest preserve or even around your neighborhood. Take walks with your dog, or your friend’s dog if you don’t have one. Have your significant other join you for a tandem bike ride!
But I own a fair collection of dance DVDs, and Hip Hop Abs is among my favorites. Check it out — it’s a lot of fun.
