You know how I’m always saying to make sure you enjoy your workout? Go outside, return to old hobbies, etc. etc. Well, I have to admit that I don’t always follow my own advice. For years I avoided returning to old activities I used to love, like volleyball, theatrical acting, running. I avoided revisiting these things because I couldn’t bear the pain of failing. These were things I was good at, and they were taken away from me — and I knew I wouldn’t like what I’d feel trying to do them again.
Tonight, I decided to attempt a zumba class at my gym — zumba is a high-intensity cardiovascular international dance workout. I hadn’t stepped foot in a dance class since about middle school. (In high school I was active in theatre cast frequently as a dancer, but I don’t consider those actual classes by any means.) I really didn’t know if I’d be able to manage, but I figured I would try.
